Carrick admits Manchester United have fallen short of expectations

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has acknowledged the team’s disappointing performances, stressing the need to restore the club’s identity and long-standing values.

According to BBC Sport on Friday, Carrick spoke at a pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League encounter with Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

The United manager expressed frustration over the team’s recent struggles, describing Wednesday’s 4-1 Champions League loss to Como as particularly painful and unacceptable.

“Recently we haven’t had a good time, I think that’s pretty obvious,” Carrick said.

“Wednesday was a bad night, and it hurt me to see us play like that. It was unacceptable.”

United’s struggles have intensified scrutiny of Carrick, with the side going seven matches without a victory. Reports of defender Lisandro Martinez questioning the club’s leadership and captain Bruno Fernandes criticising Carrick’s tactics after the defeat in Italy have added to the pressure.

Carrick said he was responsible for ensuring the team upheld the standards associated with Manchester United and gave supporters performances they could be proud of.
