A driver escaped unhurt after a train struck his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos on Friday morning, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said the incident involved a train heading towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT.
According to Taofiq, LASTMA operatives and security personnel rescued the 55-year-old driver and cleared the wreckage from the tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey towards Agege.
Although no casualty was recorded, the incident triggered heavy traffic congestion around the PWD axis, while the damaged vehicle was handed over to security personnel for further investigation.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their swift response and coordinated rescue efforts.
He urged motorists to exercise caution at railway crossings, warning them against attempting to cross the tracks when a train is approaching or in motion.
Bakare-Oki stressed that strict compliance with railway safety regulations and traffic rules is essential to preventing avoidable accidents, adding that the protection of human life must remain a priority.
