Middle East Conflict: Peace Talks Must Be Free Of Threats – Iran

Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, says peace talks with the United States will only succeed without pressure or threats, as the Middle East conflict remains deadlocked.

Speaking at the Commonwealth of Independent States summit in Turkmenistan on Friday, Pezeshkian said genuine negotiations must be based on mutual respect and commitments.

He warned that sanctions against Iran could disrupt regional trade, energy supplies and stability.

The war began in late February with U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, amid negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme. Efforts to end the conflict have since stalled, with recent indirect talks failing to produce a breakthrough.

Tensions have also centred on the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route whose closure has disrupted energy markets. Iran has targeted vessels attempting to pass without its authorisation, while the United States has imposed a counterblockade on Iranian ports.
