Chelsea Football Club has finalized a professional contract with promising young center-back Calvin Diakite, ensuring the defender remains at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future. The development was confirmed by renowned transfer authority Fabrizio Romano, who shared details of the agreement on Monday evening via his social media channels.
The newly signed contract is set to keep the defensive talent in West London until the summer of 2028. Diakite has been a consistent presence within the club’s developmental ranks, featuring prominently for both the Under-18 and Under-21 squads as he navigated the pathway toward the senior team.
“Chelsea have agreed a pro deal with talented defender Calvin Diakite,” Romano tweeted. “Agreement valid until June 2028 with Diakite, who’s been part of the Chelsea U21’s, U18’s and England youth team.”
Having originally joined the Chelsea academy at the Under-11 level, Diakite’s progression has been marked by a reputation for tactical discipline and a commanding physical presence on the pitch. His steady development within the Cobham ranks eventually caught the attention of national team selectors, leading to his international breakthrough.
The youngster’s burgeoning reputation was further solidified last year when he earned his maiden cap for the England Under-17 side. By securing Diakite to a multi-year deal, Chelsea continues its strategy of identifying and retaining elite homegrown talent, providing a clear trajectory for the defender to transition from the youth setup into the professional elite.
