The All Progressives Congress (APC) is deeply saddened by the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who died at the age of 82.
Nigeria has lost an iconic leader, a revered statesman, and a true patriot. His unwavering dedication to service, remarkable discipline, resilience, and integrity have etched his name indelibly into the history of our nation. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
Until his passing, President Buhari lived a life defined by simplicity and a profound commitment to the service of Nigeria. From his leadership of the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) to his time as military Head of State, and later as a two-term democratically elected President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he demonstrated uncommon courage, vision, and selflessness.
Though his background was in military service, President Buhari proved to be a surprising yet pivotal figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey. Beyond his association with the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), he founded the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), which merged with other parties to form the APC in 2013—a watershed moment in Nigeria’s political history.
In 2015, he made history by becoming the first opposition candidate to unseat a sitting president, a feat achieved under the banner of the APC and a defining moment in the nation’s democratic evolution.
On behalf of the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Bukar Dalori, the National Working Committee (NWC), and all members and stakeholders of our great Party, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the late President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government, the government and people of Katsina State, and indeed, all Nigerians. This is a profound national loss.
