Anthony Elanga Set to Become Newcastle’s First Major Signing in £55 Million Deal

Anthony Elanga is poised to become Newcastle United’s first major signing of the current transfer window after the Magpies reportedly agreed a £55 million ($75 million) deal with Nottingham Forest.

Multiple sources, including The Athletic, BBC, and Sky Sports, confirmed on Tuesday that the Swedish international is set to join Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Elanga was a standout performer for Nottingham Forest during their surprise seventh-place finish in the Premier League last season, contributing six goals and 11 assists.

Notably, Forest acquired Elanga from Manchester United two years ago for just £15 million, highlighting the significant value Newcastle is placing on the winger.

Newcastle’s efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the UEFA Champions League next season have faced challenges. Despite the financial backing of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, the club’s spending in recent seasons has been constrained by financial sustainability regulations.

This high-profile signing marks a major step forward in Newcastle’s ambitions to compete at the highest level in English and European football.
