Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has secured a confidence-boosting victory ahead of the 2026 Diamond League Final, winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy.
Amusan clocked 12.56 seconds to take first place despite facing a strong headwind of 1.7m/s.
American Alaysha Johnson finished second in 12.62 seconds, while Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent took third in 12.75 seconds.
The victory comes just days after American Olympic champion Masai Russell surpassed Amusan’s world record at the Zurich Diamond League.
Russell posted 12.09 seconds, lowering Amusan’s previous mark of 12.12 seconds set at the Letzigrund Stadium.
Amusan finished second in Zurich with a season’s best of 12.23 seconds.
The Nigerian had held the world record for four years after setting the 12.12-second mark during the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
She later won the final in 12.06 seconds, although the performance was not recognised as a world record because of excessive tailwind.
Amusan and Russell are set to meet again at the Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium, from September 4 to 5.
The Nigerian is a three-time Diamond League champion, having claimed the title in 2021, 2022 and 2023, and will be aiming to regain the crown this year.
