Airline Operators of Nigeria Imposes Lifetime No-Fly Ban on Comfort Emmanson Over Violent Conduct

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has imposed a lifetime ban on Ms. Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger, following her violent behaviour aboard flight Q9 303 from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025.

AON’s spokesperson, Obiora Okonkwo, announced on Monday that the decision came after a thorough review of the detailed report submitted by Ibom Air regarding the incident.

He praised the airline for handling the situation promptly and professionally and fully supported the disciplinary measures already taken against Emmanson.

Okonkwo described the passenger’s initial refusal to adhere to mobile phone safety instructions, which escalated into a “brutal physical assault” on crew members. Disturbingly, she also allegedly attempted to wield a fire extinguisher as a weapon, marking one of the most serious cases of unruly passenger conduct recorded in 2025.

“This was not mere disruption; it was a violent, sustained attack endangering the lives of crew, passengers, and the safety of the aircraft. Such behaviour is entirely unacceptable,” he said.

In response, the AON has placed Emmanson on its “No Fly” list indefinitely, effectively banning her from flying with any AON member airline domestically or internationally for life.

Okonkwo referenced previous incidents involving high-profile figures such as Nigerian musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1) on ValueJet and Adams Oshiomhole’s unruly conduct towards Air Peace staff, noting a troubling trend of escalating passenger misbehaviour.

He also called attention to apparent gaps in airport security, urging the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to urgently review and strengthen aviation security measures nationwide.

“AON stands firmly with Ibom Air and all member airlines in enforcing a zero-tolerance stance against unruly passengers. While passengers have the right to raise concerns, such actions must comply with proper procedures,” Okonkwo concluded.

“We remain committed to safeguarding our staff, passengers, aircraft, and upholding the highest standards of aviation safety.”
