Adelabu commissions 990kWp solar for bands D, E in Niger community

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has officially commissioned a 990kWp solar hybrid mini-grid project designed to provide a reliable electricity supply to Band D and E customers in the Lambata Community, located in the Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State. This project will benefit approximately 3,500 households, including small-scale industries in the community.

During the commissioning ceremony, the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) CEO, Abba Aliyu, highlighted the Minister’s efforts to improve electricity generation for Band A, B, and C areas, while also ensuring reliable power supply for the lower bands, D and E. He stated, “The purpose of this project is aligned with the Minister’s strategy to enhance reliability for Bands D and E. While the Minister is focused on boosting generation for Bands A, B, and C, we are also working from the ground up to ensure reliability for Bands D and E.”

Aliyu further explained that the project is part of a larger initiative to deploy 40 interconnected mini-grids in collaboration with seven distribution companies. He also mentioned that the Minister’s recent trip to Japan has led to discussions about additional financing of $200 million, some of which will be used to deploy an additional 100 interconnected mini-grids across Nigeria.

Adelabu reassured that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring the long-term operation and sustainability of the project. He also emphasized that the REA is dedicated to building the necessary capacity for the ongoing maintenance of the energy systems.
