NYSC Removes Name Change Requirement for Married Female Corps Members Seeking Redeployment

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that married female corps members will no longer be required to change their maiden names to that of their spouses when seeking redeployment. This change was communicated through a circular signed by the Director of Corps Mobilisation, Abubakar Mohammed, and issued to directors, acting directors, and coordinators in the states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The circular, dated November 25, 2024, titled “Review of Criteria for Concessional Deployment/Relocation for Married Female Corps Members”, stated that the management has approved a review of the criteria for approving concessional deployment or relocation requests for married female corps members.

In the new directive, state coordinators have been informed that changing a maiden name to that of a spouse is no longer a requirement for the approval of deployment or relocation requests. The circular clarified that other criteria for redeployment remain unchanged.

The NYSC also instructed state and FCT coordinators to ensure strict adherence to the new guidelines and directed that the implementation be closely monitored by area office directors.
