In a major boost for international law enforcement collaboration, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has formally commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for helping dismantle a global cybercrime network.
FBI Director, Kash Patel, sent a personal letter of appreciation to EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, praising Nigerian agents for their critical support in Operation Artemis, a joint crackdown targeting international syndicates involved in the sexual exploitation and extortion of minors.
The joint operation resulted in the August 2026 arrest and extradition of two Nigerian suspects, Adebola Adekunle and Mudasiru Olawale, who are currently facing federal charges in the United States.
Director Patel emphasized that the successful prosecution of the case would have been impossible without the dedication and seamless assistance of the EFCC.
Reacting through a statement by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu praised the leadership and operational professionalism of the anti-graft agency.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to building strong law enforcement institutions, the President declared that Nigeria will not tolerate criminals exploiting innocent victims at home or abroad, linking the achievement to recent global milestones including Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force grey list.
