Ms DSF Says Financial Stability Should Come Before Parenthood

Nigerian actress and disc jockey Dorcas Shola Fapson, popularly known as Ms DSF, has questioned the decision to have children without the financial means to provide for their needs.
The entertainer shared her views during a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast, arguing that financial difficulties can affect parents’ ability to care for their children and place additional pressure on the wider family.
Ms DSF said prospective parents should consider whether they can afford the responsibilities of raising children before deciding to start a family.
“Poor people shouldn’t have kids. I don’t think it is fair to the children. It is not fair to the family. It is not fair to you,” she said.
To illustrate her point, the actress spoke about a cousin who has five children and, according to her account, has struggled financially since the birth of the first child.
She said the family frequently needed assistance with basic expenses, including school fees and feeding.
“Why do you have five? Every week, she is requesting for financial assistance for school fees, feeding. It is so unfair. Why have kids when you don’t have means to sustain them? It is not fair,” she said.
Ms DSF reflects on her upbringing
The actress also disclosed that she grew up in a financially modest household, saying the experience influenced her position on parenthood.
She said she did not want to bring children into circumstances similar to those she experienced while growing up.
Ms DSF urged people considering parenthood to assess their financial circumstances and ensure they have the means to support their children.
Her comments centre on the financial responsibilities associated with raising a family, particularly the ability to provide necessities such as food, education and other everyday needs.
