The President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Charlyne Brumskine, has called for stronger institutional support and collective action to ensure the effective implementation of the court’s judgments across the West African region.

Justice Brumskine made the call during a working visit to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, General Birame Diop, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja on October 22, 2026.

The visit was aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and advancing efforts to ensure that judgments delivered by the Community Court are respected and implemented by relevant authorities across the ECOWAS region.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Anthony Oluwatosin Ogunjimi, and the Commissioner for Internal Services, Dr Kalilou Sylla.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced cooperation, the promotion of the rule of law and the advancement of regional integration.

They also stressed the importance of ensuring access to justice and the effective enforcement of the court’s judgments, describing these as essential to building public trust, promoting good governance and advancing the ECOWAS Vision 2050.

The engagement underscores the need for sustained cooperation among ECOWAS institutions to strengthen the Community Court’s role in promoting justice, accountability and the rule of law across the region.
