The Premier League resumes this weekend after a 19-day international break, with defending champions Arsenal among the teams looking to regain momentum as the 2026/27 campaign enters Matchweek 6.
The season was suspended after Matchweek 5 under FIFA’s revised calendar, which combined the September and October international windows into one extended break from September 21 to October 6. League action resumes on October 10.
Arsenal will welcome unbeaten Leeds United to the Emirates Stadium in the opening fixture, with the Gunners seeking a response after their 3-0 defeat away to Brighton before the international break.
Leeds, meanwhile, have made an unbeaten return to the top flight under Daniel Farke and are one of only five teams yet to lose this season, matching a feat last achieved by the club in 2001/02.
Saturday’s other fixtures include Aston Villa against Brentford, Chelsea versus Bournemouth, Ipswich Town against Fulham and Sunderland against Brighton.
Manchester United will then host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, with both sides hoping to revive their fortunes.
Sunday brings the weekend’s biggest fixture as leaders Manchester City visit Liverpool at Anfield. City have won all five of their league matches, while Liverpool have collected nine points.
The clash could also feature two of the league’s leading scorers, with City’s Erling Haaland on five goals and Liverpool’s Alexander Isak on four.
Liverpool have injury concerns over Isak and Cody Gakpo, who both returned from international duty with problems. Isak suffered a thigh injury with Sweden, while Gakpo picked up an ankle issue with the Netherlands.
Arsenal also face a fitness setback, with Germany international Kai Havertz returning to the club for treatment after sustaining a muscle injury on international duty.
The weekend will conclude on Monday when Coventry City host Newcastle United. Coventry head into the game after securing their first points of the season against Nottingham Forest, while Newcastle will target a positive restart.
