Premier League seeks swift resolution to Man City case

The Premier League wants Manchester City’s financial regulations case concluded as soon as possible, with senior football figures telling BBC Sport they expect a resolution before the season ends.

City were found guilty of breaching the league’s financial rules between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons.

Among the allegations was that the club overstated revenue by more than £900 million through sponsorship agreements.

Manchester City have consistently denied the charges and are expected to appeal the verdict.

The case has now lasted three years since the charges were brought, prompting concerns that the final sanction could face further delays.

However, senior figures in football believe there is sufficient time for the process to be completed during the current campaign.

One club official told BBC Sport that a swift conclusion would serve all parties, while another said the case “should” be settled by the end of the season.

The source also expressed hope that any appeal could be dealt with within a shortened timeframe.
