Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it has significantly upgraded its military capabilities and prepared new weapons and operational strategies in anticipation of any renewed confrontation with the United States.
IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi said the changes cover both defensive and counteroffensive operations, including adjustments to the geography of potential combat and the weapons and military equipment that could be deployed.
He said Iran would introduce weapons with new capabilities into any future battlefield, suggesting that the country’s response to a renewed US attack would differ substantially from previous operations.
The IRGC also indicated that its potential targets have changed, with new locations now being considered as part of its military planning.
The warning comes as the Guard Corps claimed its air-defence units had intercepted and destroyed a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media, citing the IRGC, said the MQ-1 had previously been retired by the United States but was brought back into service after the US lost a significant number of its more advanced MQ-9 drones.
The latest claims come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, with Iranian authorities signalling that any renewed military confrontation could trigger a broader and more technologically advanced response.
The IRGC’s statements could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate confirmation from the United States regarding the reported drone incident or Iran’s claims about its military preparations.
