NBF-Pro launches free legal support scheme for professional boxers

The professional arm of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, NBF-Pro, has launched a 30-day free legal support scheme for professional boxers nationwide.

The programme, delivered in partnership with Emoni Sports Law, is designed to assist athletes facing complicated or conflicting contracts with international promoters and managers.

NBF-Pro said unfavourable agreements and multiple contracts have affected the careers of some boxers and limited their opportunities at home and abroad.

Under the initiative, sports law experts will examine existing contracts, help athletes identify problematic or unlawful clauses and advise on resolving conflicting agreements.

The service will also include guidance on terminating or harmonising multiple contracts, as well as compliance checks to ensure future agreements meet the requirements of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, the National Sports Commission and World Boxing.

Interested boxers have been advised to contact NBF-Pro through its official channels and submit copies of their current local and international contracts during the 30-day period.

NBF-Pro Chairman Azania Omo-Agege described the initiative as a significant step towards protecting professional boxers and improving their understanding of contractual obligations.

He also commended the Nigeria Boxing Federation’s ongoing reforms, saying the legal framework would help address contract disputes that have affected the careers of some athletes.

Omo-Agege added that the programme would provide boxers with greater protection and help them make informed decisions about agreements that could shape their professional careers.
