Air Peace records highest number of delays as 15 carriers operate 7,961 flights….
Domestic airlines in Nigeria recorded 4,765 flight delays and 36 cancellations in August 2026, according to the latest operational report released by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.
The figures show that disruptions remained a major feature of domestic air travel during the month, with 15 airlines operating a combined 7,961 flights.
According to the NCAA, 59.9 per cent of the flights operated by the airlines were affected by delays.
Air Peace recorded the highest number of flight operations during the period, operating 1,864 flights.
Of that figure, 1,330 flights were delayed, representing 71.4 per cent of the airline’s total operations in August.
The NCAA released the figures on Sunday through its official social media platform as part of its monthly summary of domestic airline operations.
The data provides an overview of the scale of delays and cancellations experienced by passengers across Nigeria’s domestic aviation network during the month.
The high number of delays comes amid continuing concerns over operational efficiency, passenger experience and the reliability of domestic air travel.
The NCAA has continued to monitor airline compliance with operational and consumer protection requirements, with the regulator recently taking enforcement action against an international carrier over a passenger complaint.
The authority had sanctioned RwandAir N15m for a consumer protection violation involving a passenger’s damaged baggage.
NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu disclosed the sanction, explaining that the airline failed to resolve the complaint within the timeframe stipulated by the regulator.
The NCAA also directed RwandAir to replace the damaged baggage and pay the affected passenger $170 as first-need compensation.
The sanction was imposed under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides for consumer protection, compensation and other remedies for passengers affected by baggage-related issues.
The authority said the action reinforces the need for airlines to respond promptly to passenger complaints and comply fully with established consumer protection regulations.
