A new artificial intelligence tool from Meta is designed to move beyond answering questions by helping users complete everyday tasks and manage longer-term goals.
Called Muse, the AI agent is currently available only in the United States and restricted to users aged 18 and above.
Meta says Muse can help with activities such as organising schedules, shopping and developing plans for major personal goals. Users can describe what they want to achieve, while the system helps break the objective into practical steps.
The company said privacy and security are central to the service, with Muse operating through a dedicated virtual machine intended to keep the agent and user information in a secure environment.
Users can access Muse through a standalone application or WhatsApp. The agent can perform relatively simple tasks, including sending emails and making travel bookings, as well as longer projects such as creating a 12-month fitness programme or helping establish a new business.
Meta says Muse can manage time and resources, open websites, complete online forms and, in some cases, negotiate on behalf of users.
The launch comes as technology companies increasingly develop AI agents capable of performing tasks rather than simply providing information.
Unlike conventional chatbots, AI agents can combine programmed instructions with the reasoning abilities of large language models to search for information, make decisions and determine the next steps with limited user input.
For instance, instead of only drafting an email response, an AI agent could potentially read an incoming message, determine an appropriate response and send it without requiring further instructions.
Muse is therefore part of a broader shift towards AI systems designed to independently complete real-world tasks for users.
