Election-related allegations of incitement have triggered police investigations involving three political figures in Borno, Osun and the Federal Capital Territory.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed that Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, Senator Francis Fadahunsi of Osun East and Kuje Area Council Chairman, Danjuma Shekwolo, are being investigated over alleged inciting remarks.
Buba was accused of threatening to flog residents and cut off the hands of those who refused to support the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 elections.
Shekwolo was also accused of telling residents of Kuje Area Council to support the APC in 2027 or leave the council.
Meanwhile, Fadahunsi was seen in a viral video allegedly threatening members of the Accord Party ahead of the Osun governorship election.
Speaking at a security briefing with Defence Correspondents in Abuja, police spokesperson Chief Superintendent of Police Anietie Iniedu said inciting statements, particularly those capable of influencing the electoral process, constitute a criminal offence.
He confirmed that Fadahunsi had already been questioned over the alleged threat, while investigations into all three cases are ongoing.
The police warned political stakeholders against making inflammatory statements and said the outcome of the investigations would be made public.
The Force also urged members of the public with relevant information or evidence to come forward, stressing that witness cooperation remains critical to successful prosecution.
