The Presidency has clarified that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council list for the 2027 election remains valid and will only be adjusted where necessary, dismissing reports that the list has been withdrawn for a comprehensive review.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the clarification on Wednesday while responding to reports surrounding the composition of the campaign council.
The controversy followed concerns over the inclusion and exclusion of some APC leaders and political figures from the list, prompting speculation that the party had withdrawn it for reconsideration.
Dare, however, said the list remained in force, explaining that the campaign structure was not yet complete because several subcommittees were still to be constituted.
He noted that the creation of the additional subcommittees would provide room for more party members and political stakeholders to be incorporated into the campaign structure.
The presidential aide stressed that the expected changes should be regarded as adjustments rather than a wholesale review of the council.
The clarification comes a day after the APC also rejected reports that it had withdrawn the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council list.
The list, unveiled over the weekend, named President Tinubu as chairman, Vice-President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda as vice-chairmen, while former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, was appointed Director-General. Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was named secretary.
With the campaign structure still being expanded through the creation of subcommittees, further names are expected to be added as the APC continues preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
