Actress Jemima Osunde has criticised what she described as a blatant disregard for traffic regulations by a motorist in Lagos.
Osunde shared a video online in which she alleged that a driver left the appropriate lane and drove against the flow of traffic while attempting to get around congestion on a road leading towards Lekki.
The actress said she refused to move her vehicle out of the lane to accommodate the motorist, maintaining that traffic delays did not justify driving against traffic.
According to Osunde, she deliberately stayed in her lane and prevented the vehicle from passing.
She also alleged that police officers were inside the vehicle but said their presence did not change her position.
“I will not leave my lane for you when you are passing one way. I won’t do it,” she said.
Osunde expressed frustration with what she described as a wider pattern among some Lagos motorists who disregard traffic lights and other road regulations when faced with congestion.
She argued that such behaviour only worsens the challenges created by the city’s already busy roads.
The actress said she would rather remain in traffic for a longer period than facilitate an alleged traffic violation.
“I’m sick of Nigerians just doing anyhow, as if Lagos is not congested enough, without you passing one way and breaking traffic lights,” she said.
However, Osunde distinguished between motorists breaking traffic rules for convenience and vehicles responding to genuine emergencies.
She said she would make way for emergency-service vehicles, including ambulances and fire trucks.
“Unless you’re an ambulance or a fire truck and emergency service, I will not leave my lane for you when you’re passing one way,” she added.
Her comments have reignited discussion online about traffic discipline in Lagos, where congestion frequently tests motorists’ patience and compliance with road regulations.
