Niger State Moves to Expand CNG Network as Governor Bago Courts Major Energy Investment

Proposed project targets cheaper transportation, cleaner energy, new jobs, and stronger industrial growth across the state…….

The Niger State Government is taking another step toward expanding access to cleaner and more affordable energy following fresh investment talks on the development of a comprehensive Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) network across the state.

Governor Umaru Bago met with executives of Hiter-Stata Energy Investment Ltd., where discussions centred on a proposed investment that would establish critical CNG infrastructure to accelerate the adoption of gas-powered transportation and support the state’s long-term energy goals.

Leading the company’s delegation, Deputy Managing Director Ezuma Okoronkwo unveiled plans for a fully integrated CNG ecosystem that includes the construction of mother and daughter stations, vehicle conversion centres, and other supporting facilities designed to improve access to compressed natural gas for businesses and motorists.

If implemented, the project is expected to lower transportation and energy costs, create employment opportunities, attract private investment, and strengthen the state’s position as a growing hub for clean energy development.

Governor Bago described the proposal as an important milestone in Niger State’s drive toward industrialisation and sustainable economic growth. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment capable of supporting large-scale projects that improve infrastructure, enhance energy security, and deliver lasting economic benefits for residents.

According to Okoronkwo, the investment aligns with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, which seeks to increase the use of Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources as a cleaner alternative to conventional fuels.

He noted that beyond expanding access to CNG, the proposed infrastructure would stimulate economic activity, encourage private-sector participation, and contribute to a more affordable and environmentally sustainable transportation system.

The meeting also explored areas of collaboration between the Niger State Government and Hiter-Stata Energy Investment Ltd. to ensure the successful execution of the project and maximise its long-term social and economic impact.

The proposed investment comes at a time when governments and businesses across Nigeria are increasingly embracing compressed natural gas as a practical solution to rising fuel costs and the country’s transition toward cleaner energy sources. If the project moves forward as planned, it could significantly boost CNG availability in Niger State while opening new opportunities for businesses and residents alike.
