New Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says his second stint at the club is focused on rebuilding the team’s culture, discipline and winning mentality.
The Portuguese coach returned to the club in June as Alvaro Arbeloa’s replacement and has already begun preparations for the new season at the training ground.
Mourinho’s appointment comes after Madrid failed to secure a major trophy in the past two campaigns, with club president Florentino Perez hoping the veteran coach can restore stability and order.
“Words are not enough because this is like a mission,” Mourinho told Real Madrid TV.
“I’m not worried about myself, or if I will win a lot or a little, I am here to help everyone to be better, players, staff… to create a culture of work, responsibility, ambition, and something I know well, which is the responsibility and honour of working for Real Madrid.”
The club endured internal challenges last season, including Xabi Alonso’s departure in January and a reported clash between midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde.
Mourinho, who previously managed Madrid from 2010 to 2013, said his focus is on creating a strong work ethic and commitment among players and staff.
“It’s not about working at Real Madrid, it’s working for Real Madrid,” continued the 63-year-old coach.
“It’s with this mission-driven spirit that I am here.”
The Spanish giants have already strengthened their squad this summer with the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Ibrahima Konate as Mourinho prepares for his return campaign.
