Actor Ime Bishop Umoh Urges FG to Release IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu
The Nollywood star says freeing Kanu may not make legal sense but is morally right for peace and national reconciliation.
Popular Nollywood actor Ime Bishop Umoh, widely known as Okon Lagos, has appealed to the Federal Government to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Clarity Zone podcast, Umoh said Kanu’s release would serve the interests of peace and national reconciliation, even if it does not align with strict legal reasoning.
“I am one million percent of the opinion that Nnamdi Kanu should be freed. Free him. It may not make legal sense depending on what they claim, the evidence they have put forward about the ‘crimes’ he has committed. But it makes moral common sense,” the actor stated.
Umoh argued that Kanu’s agitation for Biafra’s secession stemmed from feelings of marginalisation among the Igbo people, stressing that his actions were driven more by emotion than by calculated decisions.
“It is morally right. Of course, he is a human being and he took emotional decisions, and emotional decisions are not right decisions. He felt that his people were being marginalised, and he started agitating for Biafra’s secession,” Umoh explained.
His remarks add to ongoing conversations about Kanu’s prolonged detention and the calls from different quarters urging the Federal Government to adopt political solutions to address separatist agitations in the country.
