Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has publicly apologized for the controversial incident that occurred at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on August 5, 2025.
In a personal statement released on Friday, K1 expressed regret over the disturbance caused by the incident, but also sought to clarify that the flask he carried that day contained only water, contrary to media reports that it had alcohol. The singer explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration, and his doctor had advised him to stay hydrated, which is why he always carries a water flask.
He emphasized that the flask had been empty during two separate security checks before being filled with water at the airport lounge, just before he proceeded to the tarmac. K1 also clarified that he had not boarded the aircraft nor had he been deboarded, pointing to CCTV footage as evidence to verify his account.
“I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols,” K1 said in his apology.
He further expressed his remorse to the Presidency, the Ministry of Aviation, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet Airlines, and Nigerians at large. K1 reaffirmed his loyalty to Nigeria, emphasizing his commitment to the country and his role as a cultural ambassador for Nigerian music.
K1 concluded his statement by thanking his fans for their continued support, assuring them of his dedication to maintaining the positive image he has built over the last five decades in the Nigerian music industry.
