How Staying Off Social Media Is Affecting Genevieve Nnaji and Other Celebrities – DeeOne

Controversial comedian and reality TV star DeeOne has claimed that the reluctance of some Nigerian celebrities to engage actively on social media is negatively impacting their brand relevance—citing veteran actress Genevieve Nnaji as an example.

Speaking on a recent episode of Pulse’s Hot Takes podcast, DeeOne argued that celebrities who maintain a low profile or keep a “mysterious” persona struggle to remain in the spotlight in today’s digitally-driven entertainment industry.

“Genevieve not talking much on social media is not helping her,” he said. “Genevieve not posting on social media every time is reducing her brand. Let me rephrase it — anybody who is not posting constantly is not top of mind.”

To emphasize his point, DeeOne controversially compared the award-winning actress to TikTok sensation Peller, suggesting that the latter is currently more influential in Nigeria’s online space.

“What makes her [Genevieve] different from other actresses? Number one from when? Since which year? Peller right now is more relevant in the internet space in Nigeria than Genevieve Nnaji,” he added.

The comments have sparked debate online, raising questions about how celebrity branding is evolving in the age of constant digital engagement.
