Just two years to Nigeria’s next general elections, political momentum is quietly building, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde appears to be a central figure in the unfolding drama.
Large posters bearing Makinde’s portrait and campaign-style slogans have surfaced in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State. Prominently branded with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) logo, the posters carry messages like “Seyi Makinde is the Answer” and “To Move Nigeria Forward 2027,” fuelling speculation about a potential presidential run.
The posters were spotted in some of Dutse’s busiest areas, including Unity Pentagon, Police Headquarters Roundabout, Obasanjo Road, Muhammadu Buhari Street, and Abdulsalami Abubakar Street—locations that suggest a coordinated effort to gain maximum visibility.
Confirming the development, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, National Secretary of the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group for Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027), said the initiative is part of a growing grassroots movement to back Makinde for the presidency.
“We’ve come together as youth groups and resolved to support Engineer Seyi Makinde in 2027,” Abdullahi told reporters. “We’re actively engaging with stakeholders across the country to make this a reality.”
He added that the campaign is still in its early stages, but plans are already underway to extend the visibility campaign to more northern states, including Kano, Katsina, Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno. Materials such as banners, stickers, and posters will soon hit the streets in those regions.
According to Abdullahi, the long-term strategy involves expanding operations to the southern part of the country, in a bid to galvanize nationwide support ahead of the election season.
While Makinde has not officially declared interest in the 2027 presidential race, the growing support base and calculated public displays suggest that conversations around his candidacy may be gaining serious traction.
