“There’s a Gang-Up Against Ibrahim Chatta” – Portable Alleges After AMVCA Loss

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has alleged foul play in the Nigerian entertainment industry following actor Ibrahim Chatta’s loss at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Chatta, who was nominated in the Best Lead Actor category for his role in House of GAA, lost out to Femi Adebayo for Seven Doors. Adebayo’s co-star, Chioma Chukwuka, also clinched the Best Lead Actress award.
Reacting in a video shared on his Instagram page, Portable suggested that Chatta’s loss was not due to merit but the result of a conspiracy within Nollywood.
“My fans, there’s a gang-up in the Nigerian entertainment industry—even in Nollywood,” he said. “They didn’t give Ibrahim Chatta an award at the 11th AMVCA despite his top-tier performance. Just like they snubbed me at The Headies.”
The Zazu crooner went on to question the credibility of award platforms, claiming that some artists and actors allegedly buy recognition.
“We don’t need awards. We need food, we need money. We have the money, but you can’t use it to buy true recognition. Some people buy awards, but real talent doesn’t need to beg for applause.”
Portable also praised Chatta, calling him his mentor and offering words of encouragement:
“Ibrahim Chatta, if they don’t award you, God will reward you. You’re my boss and my mentor. I love you.”
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Chatta has hinted at being sidelined. In 2023, he claimed his consistent exclusion from AMVCA nominations was the result of a deliberate conspiracy within the industry.
