Funke Akindele Vows Political Comeback After 2023 Election Loss

Nollywood star and box office sensation Funke Akindele has revealed her intention to return to politics, despite her initial setback in the 2023 general elections.

Akindele, who was the deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, contested in the election ultimately won by the All Progressives Congress (APC). Despite the loss, she remains resolute in her political aspirations.

Speaking during the first live edition of the With Chude podcast, the actress affirmed her unwavering commitment to public service.

“I’m glad I went into politics,” she said. “And if you ask me whether I’ll do it again—oh yes, I love it.”

Reflecting on what motivated her entry into politics, Akindele explained that her desire to serve and give back to society played a central role.

“I needed to support and give back—that’s why I ventured into politics,” she shared.

The actress went on to describe the challenges she faced, including political violence and the often intense atmosphere of campaign grounds. Still, the experience left a lasting impression on her.

“Being in the thick of it, witnessing the violence, the shouting—it was a lot. But I also started paying close attention to female politicians. The way they speak, the way they command respect and authority—it inspired me.”

With her sights set on a political comeback, Funke Akindele is proving that setbacks are just stepping stones for those with vision and determination.
