In a bold show of unity and political resolve, the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s presumptive candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The endorsement was announced during the APC National Policy and Governance Summit, held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, with leading party figures and state governors in attendance.
The motion, spearheaded by PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, was swiftly seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, signaling an emphatic consensus among the APC’s power brokers at the sub-national level.
“We are fully aligned behind President Tinubu,” Uzodimma declared. “His leadership is steering Nigeria through tough reforms toward long-term stability. He remains the best hope for sustained national transformation.”
Uzodimma further pledged the collective commitment of APC governors to deliver electoral victory in their respective states come 2027, promising to mobilize both political and material resources.
The PGF’s early and unanimous backing significantly strengthens Tinubu’s hold on the ruling party and sends a strong message to potential challengers within the APC fold. Though party primaries remain a constitutional requirement, political analysts view this public declaration as tantamount to a de facto coronation.
“This is a preemptive consolidation,” said political analyst Dr. Samira Olatunji. “It effectively neutralizes dissent within the APC and forces the opposition to rethink its strategy.”
The move also mirrors similar political tactics seen during past election cycles, such as the PDP’s internal alignment behind former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2011. It signals that Tinubu is not only in control of the federal executive but also retains strong influence over the party’s key electoral machinery.
The governors lauded Tinubu’s ongoing economic and structural reforms, despite the early pain of subsidy removal and currency devaluation. They cited major investments in infrastructure, food security, and national security as evidence of his commitment to building a resilient economy.
Their endorsement builds on recent votes of confidence passed by party blocs, notably governors in the North Central zone, who praised Tinubu’s inclusive governance and prioritization of infrastructure projects across geopolitical lines.
