Youths Storm Jonathan’s Abuja Residence, Urge Former President to Contest 2027 Election

Thousands of enthusiastic youths under the banner of the Coalition for Goodluck Jonathan stormed the Abuja residence of former President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday, demanding his return to active politics ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The rally, which took place around Taraba Close in Maitama, drew massive crowds and caused heavy traffic congestion across the upscale district as supporters marched through nearby streets singing solidarity songs, dancing, and displaying placards with bold inscriptions such as “GEJ: Nigeria is dying, save it!”, “GEJ, Nigerian youths still believe in you,” and “Jonathan for 2027”.

Speaking during the demonstration, several youth leaders described Jonathan as a symbol of peace, unity, and democratic stability, insisting that Nigeria needed experienced leadership to overcome its current economic and security challenges.

Jonathan served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015 after the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

The former president gained international recognition in 2015 when he peacefully conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari after the presidential election, becoming the first sitting Nigerian president to hand over power to an opposition candidate through a democratic process. Supporters at the rally said this singular act cemented his reputation as a statesman committed to democracy and national peace.

Although Jonathan has not publicly declared any intention to contest the 2027 election, the demonstrators insisted they would continue mobilising Nigerians to persuade him to return and “rescue the nation”.
