Yoruba Rap Pioneer Lord of Ajasa Becomes US Citizen

Veteran Nigerian rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, has officially become a United States citizen.
The Yoruba rap pioneer announced the milestone on Instagram, where he shared photographs and video clips showing him with his American citizenship certificate.
In one of the photos, Lord of Ajasa posed alongside his wife with the United States flag visible in the background.
The announcement quickly attracted congratulatory messages from fellow artistes, music producers and fans, including some of his long-time associates.
Lord of Ajasa is widely recognised as one of the early artistes who helped take indigenous Yoruba rap into mainstream Nigerian music.
His career predates the emergence of prominent Yoruba-language rappers such as Dagrin, Olamide and Reminisce, placing him among the early figures in the evolution of indigenous hip-hop in Nigeria.
He is particularly known for songs including “Le Fenu So,” “Esha Lo Bade” and “Mai Lo,” which have remained notable references in discussions about the development of Yoruba rap and the early Coded Tunes era.
The rapper has also spent considerable time in the United States in recent years, where he has performed at shows and attended other engagements.
His newly announced citizenship now provides clarity on his status in the country, following years of public interest in his frequent stays there.
