The late Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was being considered for a senior role in a prospective Ogun State administration, APC governorship candidate Solomon Adeola has revealed.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, disclosed this on Tuesday during a visit to Ogogo’s family at their country home in Ilaro.
The senator, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly, said he had planned to bring the veteran actor into government if he won the 2027 governorship election.
According to Adeola, Ogogo was initially being considered for the position of Special Adviser on Culture and Tourism.
He, however, said the actor could have been given a bigger responsibility as a member of the state executive council and served as a cabinet-level official.
Adeola said he had kept the plan private because he was still hopeful of winning the governorship election and implementing the proposed appointment.
Ogogo, whose real name was Taiwo Hassan, died at the age of 66 on August 23, 2026, following complications from cancer.
Adeola was among those who supported the actor during his illness, providing financial assistance towards his treatment and reportedly helping with his medical expenses.
The senator’s disclosure adds another dimension to tributes for Ogogo, whose career in Yoruba-language cinema made him one of the recognisable figures in Nigeria’s indigenous film industry.
