Wike Urges Fubara to Be Transparent with Tinubu Amid Political Tensions in Rivers State

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike advises suspended Rivers Governor Fubara to be honest with President Tinubu, condemns actions of women who walked out on First Lady Tinubu.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has urged the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, to be direct and transparent with President Bola Tinubu about his intentions, advising him against contradictory actions and statements.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike emphasized that political leaders must demonstrate sincerity in their actions. He criticized individuals who claim to seek peace while simultaneously engaging in behaviors that undermine it. Wike’s comments come amidst rising tensions between him and Fubara.

Wike specifically condemned a recent incident in which a group of women, allegedly loyal to Fubara, staged a walkout during a Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment event organized by the office of the First Lady, Aisha Tinubu, in Port Harcourt. The event was intended to benefit 500 women in the state, but the disruptive act was seen as an affront to the First Lady and President Tinubu.

The FCT Minister, currently in China for official engagements, called the walkout “disturbing and embarrassing,” and expressed regret on behalf of Rivers State, offering an apology to the First Lady and the President. He emphasized that disrespecting the First Lady is a direct insult to the office of the President and called on Fubara’s supporters to avoid further damaging the reputation of the state.

Wike’s comments reflect ongoing political rivalries in Rivers State, with tensions between him and Fubara reaching new heights amid their differing approaches to governance and relations with the central government.
