Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule in First Joint Appearance After Fresh Peace Efforts

Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martin Amaewhule were seen together in public on Saturday, just days after President Bola Tinubu hosted fresh peace talks in Abuja to resolve the state’s deepening political crisis.

The three political figures attended the funeral of Wike’s uncle in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State—a development interpreted by observers as a potential sign of de-escalation in the long-running feud between Fubara and his former allies.

Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, shared a video of the moment on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, alongside Governor Siminalayi Fubara, at the burial of Wike’s uncle in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State today.”

The event was attended by several notable political figures, including Senators Allwell Onyesoh, George Thompson Sekibo, and Olaka Nwogu, along with former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chibudom Nwuche, former lawmaker Ken Chikere, APC South-South Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, and former PDP Deputy National Chairman Dr. Sam Sam Jaja.

While the joint appearance has raised speculation about a thaw in relations, no official statement has yet been issued on the outcome of the Abuja meeting or the next steps in the reconciliation process.
