President Bola Tinubu today extended a warm, open invitation to FCT Minister and PDP stalwart, Nyesom Wike, signalling that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would gladly welcome him if he ever chose to defect
Tinubu made the remarks during the commissioning of the newly completed N16 arterial road (Shehu Shagari Way) connecting Ring Road 1 to the N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) in Abuja’s Maitama–Katampe corridor.
He praised Wike’s leadership and collaboration in delivering such public infrastructure, commenting amid laughter that “we will enjoy him singing ‘as e dey pain them, e dey sweet us’” if he joins APC.
In his address, Tinubu emphasised the teamwork behind the project, highlighting Wike’s gesture of peacefully relocating and compensating affected residents
The President hinted that Wike’s eventual switch would not only reflect mutual respect but also deal a blow to opposition forces, saying that Wike’s decision would bring joy to APC and pain to political rivals.
Reaction in the crowd and from Wike himself ranged from modest smiles to equivocal applause. The invitation may stoke speculation about future political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
