Vice-President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for the United States to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The trip, made at the request of President Bola Tinubu, will take place from September 24 to 28, with the theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.”
In a statement released on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications Stanley Nkwocha, it was noted that President Tinubu has tasked Shettima with leading the Nigerian delegation while he focuses on addressing urgent domestic issues, including the recent devastating floods.
During the session, Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in key meetings on the sidelines, and engage in bilateral discussions with other leaders. The President has emphasized that only authorized government officials will attend this year’s UNGA.
Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, communicated this directive during a one-day retreat for heads of government agencies, highlighting the administration’s commitment to prudent resource management and reducing the cost of governance.
