Veteran Actor Jimi Solanke Dies at 81

A veteran actor, playwright, and folk singer, Jimi Solanke, has been confirmed dead on Monday at the age of 81.

The renowned thespian, storyteller, and folk singer, died after a brief illness while on his way to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Ogun State.

Reports indicate that he passed away while en route from his residence in Ipara Remo, located in the Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan, succumbing to death’s embrace.

Chief Solanke had been in and out of hospitals since December until his passing on Monday morning.

The news of the highly talented artist’s departure was confirmed by Hon Dickson Awolaja, who represents Remo North State Constituency at the state Assembly.

Hon Awolaja expressed, “I recently received information about the passing of Pa Jimi Solanke. His demise undoubtedly presents another significant loss to us in Remo North and Ogun State as a whole, given his commendable contributions to the development of our dear nation. May his soul rest in peace.”

He is renowned for his work in productions such as Kongi’s Harvest, Sango, Shadow Parties, and many others. He is affectionately referred to as Uncle Jimi.
