Umahi Warns Against Politicising Insecurity as FG Flags Off Gombe–Biu Highway Project

Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to tackling insecurity and expanding key infrastructure projects across the country, while warning against attempts to politicise security challenges.
It also restated its commitment to infrastructure development with the official flag-off of the Gombe–Biu Super Highway, a major section of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri dual carriageway project.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, gave the warning during the flag-off ceremony in Gombe State, saying the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working to address security challenges nationwide. He urged Nigerians to support government efforts rather than exploit insecurity for political advantage.

According to him, “security challenges will be defeated if all stakeholders work together”, adding that citizens must avoid actions that could undermine ongoing efforts to restore peace.

Umahi, in a statement by his aide Francis Nwaze, described the highway project as evidence of the government’s focus on infrastructure renewal and national integration. He praised Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for ongoing development in the state, saying, “we are honestly very proud of what you have achieved in this state”.

He also said the federal government had expanded the scope of the Gombe–Biu project following requests from the state government, assuring that construction would begin soon.

“Within the next 30 days, you will see real work on this highway”, he said. The project is expected to improve connectivity, boost economic activity, and strengthen security mobility across the northeastern corridor.
