British counter-terrorism authorities are investigating a suspected terrorist plot near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, a key airbase used by the United States for military operations linked to Iran.
Five London-based UK nationals in their 20s were arrested after police received reports of three suspicious vehicles travelling towards the area.
The arrests triggered a major security operation, with nearby residents evacuated while bomb disposal experts examined vehicles and conducted searches.
The suspects were initially detained under the Explosives Act before the investigation was escalated to suspected preparation of a terrorist act.
Police say they are pursuing several lines of inquiry while urging the public not to speculate about the motive.
The arrests come amid heightened tensions over the US military presence at RAF Fairford and the broader conflict between Washington and Tehran.
Iran has denied any involvement, while British officials have also stopped short of linking the incident to Tehran.
Although U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed the suspects intended to cause significant damage, investigators have yet to publicly establish a motive or identify any group behind the alleged plot.
