Trump Moves to Cut All Federal Ties With Harvard in Escalating Clash

President Donald Trump’s administration has intensified its confrontation with Harvard University by initiating the termination of all remaining federal contracts with the institution, valued at approximately $100 million.

This directive, issued through the General Services Administration (GSA), instructs federal agencies to review and cancel non-essential agreements with Harvard by June 6, 2025.

The administration cites allegations of antisemitism, racial discrimination in admissions, and the university’s resistance to federal oversight as reasons for this action.

Previously, the government had frozen $3.2 billion in grants and attempted to revoke Harvard’s ability to enroll international students—a move temporarily blocked by a federal judge.

Harvard has responded by filing lawsuits, arguing that the administration’s actions violate constitutional protections and threaten academic freedom. The university contends that these measures are politically motivated and undermine its autonomy.

This escalating conflict reflects broader tensions between the federal government and elite academic institutions, with potential implications for higher education funding and governance nationwide.
