Troost-Ekong Warns Super Eagles Against Underestimating Aubameyang and Gabon

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has singled out Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the team’s most dangerous threat ahead of Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff semi-final.

Aubameyang has been in fine form, netting seven goals in the qualifiers, and is expected to spearhead the Panthers’ attack against Nigeria.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Troost-Ekong stressed that the Super Eagles cannot afford complacency.

“Gabon is a strong team. Aubameyang continues to lead from the front, causing problems for defenders. I’ve played against him in Saudi Arabia, and I know what he brings. In Africa, you can’t underestimate any team, and we certainly won’t do that with Gabon,” Troost-Ekong told Olympics.com.

The playoff semi-final between Nigeria and Gabon will hold at the Prince Héritier Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex in Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
