
The Nigerian Army has reported significant progress in its ongoing efforts to combat banditry in Taraba State. Troops from 6 Brigade, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), successfully apprehended a wanted bandit and seized a substantial cache of arms during coordinated operations across multiple local government areas.
On April 16, troops responded to a distress call from a local hunter and raided a suspected bandits’ hideout in Dutsen Kachalla, Lau Local Government Area. The operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 magazine, a rifle butt, a military headgear, and a national ID card belonging to one Adamu Umaru Jauro.
In a subsequent operation on April 19, troops arrested Yusuf Hammadu, known as Dogo, in Lau LGA. Hammadu, a member of a syndicate responsible for multiple kidnappings and ransom collections in Jalingo, Ardo-Kola, Lau, and Yorro LGAs, was apprehended following credible intelligence.
Additionally, on April 22, troops, in collaboration with operatives from the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), raided Jatau-Nyimu village in Donga LGA. The operation resulted in the recovery of 86 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a Tarvor magazine, four cartridges, three single-barrel guns, two camouflage uniforms, and a radio.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their professionalism and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support security operations in the state. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in ensuring lasting peace and security in Taraba State.
