The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has declared Force Majeure on the 132kV Birnin Kebbi–Niamey transmission line following the collapse of three transmission towers.
TCN, in a statement signed by its management on Friday, said the towers—T109, T110 and T111—collapsed at Chibike village after heavy rainfall and a windstorm in the area.
The incident occurred after the transmission line tripped at about 5:38pm on August 26, 2026. According to TCN, a trial reclosure conducted at 6:03pm was unsuccessful as the line tripped instantly.
Following the outage, TCN linesmen embarked on a fault-finding patrol and discovered the collapsed towers.
The development has disrupted bulk power transmission to Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic, through the affected transmission line.
TCN said it had mobilised personnel and resources to the affected location and was working to rehabilitate the damaged towers and restore the line to service as quickly as possible.
The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to electricity customers in Niamey, assuring them that every effort was being made to restore normal power supply promptly.
