Super Eagles Weren’t Super as the Elephants Win 2 -1 to Win AFCON

This is one night the Super Eagles of Nigeria didn’t soar on Sunday, February 11 as a complete turnaround in fortunes at the tournament for Sebastian Haller, from a cancer diagnosis in 2022 to the winning goal in the AFCON final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan the capital city of Côte d’Ivoire.

The Super Eagles were the favourites but, the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire were the better team from start to finish showing much hunger and determined not to disappoint their home crowd.

The Super Eagles took the lead through captain Troost-Ekong in the 38th minute of the first half, but Franck Yannick Kessié levelled before Haller sealed matters.

As hard as defeat will be for the Super Eagles, Haller’s moment is one to cherish for all.

Witnessing the wild celebrations in the stands at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan the hosts claim a deserved third AFCON title!

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have only themselves to blame for simply not showing up today when it mattered most. The Super Eagles were made to pay for their lethargic performance and it’s a sad end for them but a glorious one for the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire, who rose from the dead to win their third AFCON title.

The fairy tale of this tournament and the never-say-die attitude of Les Elephants completes the end of this tournament.
