Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Leaves Out Osimhen to Protect Striker Ahead of Summer Transfer

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has revealed that he is deliberately leaving Victor Osimhen out of the national team squad to safeguard the striker ahead of a potential summer transfer.

Osimhen was not included in Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Unity Cup matches or the friendly against Russia scheduled for June 6.

The 26-year-old forward, who recently completed a successful loan spell at Galatasaray where he scored 26 goals, has yet to finalize his next move.

Chelle believes Osimhen is on the brink of a major transfer and wants to ensure he remains physically and mentally prepared for the transition.

“I need to protect him physically and mentally, because maybe he will go [and get a transfer move],” Chelle told BBC Sport. “Maybe a club like Manchester United. Or maybe Chelsea, Barcelona or Real Madrid. So he needs to be focused on that.”

In addition to interest from top European clubs, Osimhen is reportedly also attracting attention from teams in the Saudi Pro League.
