Sunshine Stars head coach, Bobola Akinfolarin, has revealed that the team is now awaiting the club management’s decision following their relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Owena Whales’ relegation was officially confirmed after a 2-1 loss to Niger Tornadoes at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday. The result sealed their fate ahead of the final game of the season.
Sunshine Stars are scheduled to face El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri in their last fixture, but Akinfolarin acknowledged that the match holds no competitive value for his side.
“The match against El Kanemi is just a formality,” Akinfolarin said.
“We are only going there to honour the game and see what the management will decide after the match.”
The team’s NPFL campaign has seen them record 11 wins, eight draws, and 17 defeats across 37 matches, a performance that ultimately led to their drop from the top tier.
