Vice President to join African and European leaders for three-day high-level talks in Luanda.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Johannesburg for Luanda to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the AU-EU Summit scheduled to take place this week in Angola.
The development was disclosed on Sunday in Abuja by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications at the Office of the Vice President.
Nkwocha explained that Shettima left South Africa shortly after participating in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, which was held in Johannesburg. He said the Vice President will join other Heads of State and Government from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) for the 7th AU-EU meeting.
According to him, the summit will run from Monday to Wednesday in Luanda, Angola’s capital.
“The AU and EU meeting will bring together young leaders, innovators, and Civil Society Organisations to brainstorm on some of the shared challenges of the two unions,” Nkwocha said.
He added that discussions at the summit will centre on climate change, inclusive development, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative sector, manufacturing, and agribusiness, areas both unions consider key to strengthening cooperation.
Nkwocha confirmed that Vice-President Shettima will return to Nigeria at the end of the summit.
