Sancho Blocks Swap Deal as Man United Miss Out on Emi Martinez

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho reportedly prevented the club from securing the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on transfer deadline day.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United explored the possibility of a direct swap deal with Aston Villa, valuing both players at around £25 million. However, Sancho’s insistence on leaving Old Trafford only on loan rather than in a permanent move scuppered negotiations.

The 25-year-old forward is not part of manager Ruben Amorim’s plans this season. He had hoped to make his stay at Chelsea permanent after a loan spell last term, but the Blues failed to reach an agreement and instead paid a £5 million penalty to return him to United.

Sancho subsequently entered talks with several Serie A sides before Villa made a late approach to take him on loan, but the deal fell through.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have strengthened their goalkeeping department by completing the signing of Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
